A cable can look finished and still have a wiring, termination or pathway problem. Testing gives the installer and customer evidence about the completed link instead of relying only on appearance or a device that happens to connect.
Continuity and wire-map checks
Basic copper checks can identify open conductors, shorts, crossed pairs and other obvious wiring faults. They answer a different question from formal certification.
Certification is a project requirement, not a synonym for every test
Some projects require formal channel or permanent-link certification and records. If a contractor, IT team or project manager needs those records, confirm the requirement and the handoff format before the work is quoted.
Fiber links use a different test approach
Fiber loss testing helps assess the completed optical link. The route, connector or splice work and the equipment requirements determine what should be checked.
Labels and records still matter
A test result is easier to use when it can be matched to the room, port and cable label. Ask how the completed connections and any test records will be identified.
Questions to ask before closeout
Which links were tested? What type of test was performed? How are the results tied to the cable labels? Does the IT or construction team have a required format?
