ICS practical guide
A useful cabling quote starts with more than a drop count. The installer needs to understand the space, pathways, ceilings, floors, rack location, device locations, access restrictions and the timing of the work.
At the site
The survey may look at cable routes, ceiling and wall access, floors, telecom rooms, existing racks, pathways and obstacles that affect the installation.
At the rack or telecom room
Available cabinet space, patch panels, equipment, power coordination, cable entry and the way existing connections are labeled can change the scope.
At the device locations
Workstations, access points, cameras, phones and other connected equipment should be located on a plan or identified in the space.
What the customer can prepare
Floor plans, approximate drop counts, photos of the rack, project timing, building access information and notes from the IT or construction team all help.
Why the details improve the quote
When site conditions are understood early, the scope can be based on real pathways and access rather than assumptions that change once installation begins.
